Micron, which owns the Lexar brand, is leaving the retail removable storage media business. Time was when there were only two factories worldwide producing the internal flash memory component that it was very profitable. I recall paying £80 for a 256 MEGABYTE Compact Flash card in 2002. And that was something of a bargain at the time. Nowadays, there are a greater number of production facilities and flash memory chips are as cheap as, well, chips. Micron believes it can do better focussing its attentions elsewhere. It will try to sell Lexar, but it is unclear whether it will be successful. All my Lexar cards have a "lifetime" guarantee for the period in which I own them and Micron is offering support during the transitional period. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

Lexar has been bought by Longsys, a Chinese company which specialises in flash storage.
