The Light L16 camera, which employs computational photography to create high resolution composite images from separate camera modules, is now shipping to customers who prepaid. The company recently released some sample images, which can be seen at various places, DPReview included. It is fair to say that DPReview is sceptical, noting that none of the shots was taken in challenging light. Neither do any cameras yet appear to have been sent out to reviewers.

Maybe computational photography is the future, but equally it might founder in a similar way to the Illum camera. That, if you recall, created images where the point of focus could be set AFTER the shot was taken Unfortunately, the results were never as good as those from a conventional camera. The company still exists, but has abandoned photography and is taking the technology in a different direction.
