Should we remove scoring in club competitions?

Thank you Mike!
Re: Should we remove scoring in club competitions?
Well, we had our first competition of the season at Mid Somerset last night. It was an open theme. Each competition includes prints and digital and members can enter 3 images in both categories. It was a good turnout, with 46 print entries and 60 DPIs - apparently the biggest entry they've seen in years ! All entries were handed in 2 weeks beforehand and had been provided to the judge in advance of the competition (he had reviewed DPI copies of the prints, then looked at the prints on the night). He arrived with a paragraph of critique prepared for each and every entry. His feedback was thoughtful and insightful, providing everyone with strengths, weaknesses, & suggestions for improvement. Because there were so many entries he was struggling to give everyone all the feedback he'd prepared so he's going to email it all to the club sec. Everyone agreed afterwards that he was an exceptional judge - not cut of the usual cloth ! He held back 10 prints from which he ranked the top 5. He held back just 5 DPIs and ranked them. The top 5 images in both print and DPI sections automatically go forward for image of the year trophy competitions. The overall standard of entries I saw last night was extremely high - especially so in the print section. Yours truly was gobsmacked though, to end up with the top DPI !!! This club newbie is going to have a hard time following that for the rest of the season...!!!

Well done Rose. Could you post your winning image on this forum? I am guessing that it is a portrait or a plane!
Sounds like a great judge.
Good to see you so settled in your new club.

LOL... wrong on both counts !! It was this one...
And by the way, the winning print had been taken on an iPhone ! Just goes to show that it's the photographer behind the lens (and holding the processing pen)
