It helps that we know each other in real life. I long ago accepted that people will misinterpret even the mostly carefully worded statements, which many forum entries aren't. The simplest and quickest method when something gets batted back and forth is to pick up the phone, not something which is possible online.

#191 - A Classy Salon

Postby davidc » Thu 11 Jul 2013, 10:02

Remember 191 days ago when I said I wanted this project to be a learning experience?

Today I tried to learn using a full manual Agfa Silette film camera. No metering, restricted to 125th/60th/30th of a second shutter and a similarly small selection of apertures. I can't even see where I'm focusing, just guesswork (aka "zone focusing" ).

As a learning experience it was an exercise in frustration. In terms of an outcome, it's an exercise in frustration. Lesson learned, photography has moved on and I needn't bother with this kind of silliness again.

Having said that I have a new found respect for my parents who actually managed to get pics of me & my brother growing up with the same camera... Film must have been cheap back then...

Been hoovering the stars off the carpet ever since!

Good shot. I enjoyed seeing this when it was projected at the Master Trophy competition.

Thank you :) It's my favourite too and for my images I think the judge got the ordering correct. Though the cake one is silly/fun I spotted flaws in it after the shoot which needed a lot of photoshopping. Trouble is it wasnt an easy shot to do more than once :)

davidc wrote:The final "celebration" themed picture for the club competition next week. Didn't come out exactly how I thought it would but hey it's just a bit of fun and for me fits the celebration theme pretty well.

I know how I'll tackle it next time though :)

Yes that's real squirty cream and those candles really are lit too! Took three washes to get the gunk out of my hair.

This was my favourite shot from the Celebration trio for the Master Trophy competition. The sheer silliness of someone putting cream and ith lit candles (!) on their head head and then photographing themselves is a stroke of genius.

Cleaning yourself up afterwards must have taken as long as the set up.

Three good images for the Master Trophy and a well deserved win.

#194 - Purple

Postby davidc » Mon 15 Jul 2013, 10:37

Visiting my grandparents I spent at least an hour chasing a blue damselfly around their pond... bloody thing didn't stay still! In the end I had to shoot something which DID cooperate!
