London Wetland Centre - gauging interest

Postby davidc » Wed 12 Sep 2012, 11:39

I've been to the LWC (or Wildfowl Wildlife Trust I think it's called?) a couple of times now and as well as being superb for those interested in birds, they just added four absolutely brilliant new otters. All sisters, they are a lot of fun to watch and I burned through 24gb of pics on those alone. Expect to get bored of otters this season :)

Although it might be getting a little late in the year for the best results, I wanted to recommend it as a venue and see if there was any interest in going there? It's really easy by train, simply change at Clapham Junction and a short walk/bus ride from Barnes. However, I did notice Croydon Birdwatching Club on one visit and they'd hired a coach - we could conceivably get in touch with them to arrange something/split costs maybe?

Here's something to whet your appetite :)

Dave

If you are a fan of otters, then you would like the British Wildlife Centre (http://www.britishwildlifecentre.co.uk/) which has three enclosures for these entertaining creatures. As you would expect from the name, it also has a host of other British fauna, including a walkthrough cage with red squirrels. It's certainly worth a trip, although it sounds as though you might need more than 24 GB of memory cards if you go there. ;)

The LWC might be a worthwhile outing during the autumn as I believe that that it can be a stopping point for migratory birds during this period. I would certainly be interested in going there as it is one of those places I have never got around to visiting.
