Explains why you were so quiet on the forum over the weekend. ;)

The first shot you posted is the one which I think has been reversed.

I think it's probably just an evening shot from the opposite side of the field. It looks like the slope is going uphill which tallies with my shot looking downhill and the sun could conceivably be in that position near sunset.

The sun does not look to be in the right place for its setting position - I would expect it to be on the other side of the tree.

Based on the camera location and assuming a mid July timeframe it looks like a reasonably good match to me?

#189 - Patina

Postby davidc » Tue 09 Jul 2013, 09:06

Spotted this strange, colourful tarnish pattern and thought it might make an interesting macro shot. Not sure what makes it so colourful!

OK, you've proved your point. I had been working on the basis that the sun would travel in something like an 180 degree arc and had not realised that it would be signficantly greater than that at this time of year.

lol sorry I didn't mean this to sound like I was trying to shout you down, I'd just tried numerous angles/locations in TPE before deciding dawn would probably look better :)

Now I'm using TPE to plan the shots I want when we go to Scotland for a week :)

No worries. From my point of view it was a useful discussion between friends which has helped my understanding of where the sun is likely to rise and set at any given time of the year. :D

Hope you did not think that I was trying to put my point forcefully, but I just could not see how the sun could set so close to the point where it was rising and was convinced that the only explanation was a reversal of the image.

No, just usually operate on the principle that being overly (embarrassingly?) clear on forums where the spoken nuance is lost is the safest way ;)

#190 - The Street Is Life

Postby davidc » Tue 09 Jul 2013, 14:32

The Street Is Life. Apparently.

Also after that city bloke racing through the shot glared at me because I took a photo I thought the "take a long holiday" might be appropriate advice for him.
