davidc wrote:Set myself a mini challenge today. A roll of kodak film, 36 shots. I've also followed the advice of a chap online who says that although the box says iso 400, set the camera to 100 and shoot like that.

I could therefore end up with a roll completely overexposed and useless or 36 new masterpieces... ;)

Bracket?

I've been assured film has so much dynamic range and is so much more forgiving than digital, as well as forcing me to take my time, I cannot fail ;)

I may take a backup digital shot just in case mind, in case the entire roll is destroyed or something.

Negative film, whether colour or black and white, should be OK provided there is not too much difference in exposure values between the lightest and darkest parts of the scene. Transparency is a definite no no and it is usually better to under expose slightly. It reduces the risk of blowing highlights and colours can look better due to an increase in saturation. A third of a stop is normally sufficient, but it does depend on the contrast in the scene.

#137 - Kiss

Postby davidc » Wed 22 May 2013, 09:21

I set myself a challenge today - to get the shot ONLY using my AE-1 and a single roll of film.

This could theoretically destroy the project :)

In the end I got a few pics, of which this was the best.

#138 - The Wild Grain

Postby davidc » Wed 22 May 2013, 09:22

Spot the odd one out.

Wasn't entirely sure one black grain of rice in a pack of white rice was going to be all that pleasant to eat! Surely I have a cross contamination compensation claim! ;)

Almost ran out of time today and certainly ran out of inspiration. Shot this abstract of a swirl in a piece of glass.

Quite an uneventful day for photography really, this was the only thing that I shot worth sharing.

#141 - Living Leaf

Postby davidc » Wed 22 May 2013, 09:31

I shot a picture of a skeleton of a decayed leaf way back in January and had been waiting for leaves to show up on the trees to find the opposite shot.

I like the really vibrant green of the main "veins", looks like they are carrying some form of viriditas!

Backlit by my YN560II from below, about 10cm away on 1/128th power.

Thanks! Considering I jumped out of bed panicking because I'd forgotten to take the photo I was really pleased with the outcome :)
