Looks like blackcurrant jelly in the bottom glass.

Which along with "purple ice" or "purple wax" make much more sense than what I really did - bought a kilo of clear casting resin and purple pigment and set it in the shape you see :)

Meaning I now have an unusable wine glass and nearly a kilo of casting resin left over! Anyone want something cast in resin?

Catching up on a few days my first pic is Wally :)
DIdn't get any time with the flash cable during the portrait session and I needed to leave early so I grabbed just three shots of him. I'd have preferred slightly more shadows but the lighting setup was such that both sides of the face were lit the same.

Still, I decided to try to emulate the post processing used by a chap called Andrzej Dragan and I'm reasonably pleased with the outcome.

With a rare glimpse of blue sky and sunshine, the Shard looked like it had bottled up all the bad weather.... if only that were true :)

One of three flower shots taken tonight - totally different to what I intended to get but yielded some good results!

Ended up choosing this one as my favourite & today's 365 shot.

Strobist - YN590II through softbox about 10cm above the flower head

Will be interesting to hear Wally's reaction to the image. I like the catchlight in his left eye and his shirt colour compliments the background. Did you try experimenting with B&W conversion? Would be interesting to see what you could get.

Love the detail and the slight glow the light has given.

I did and found that although Wally's face contrasts nicely against the backdrop it was really clashing with his shirt.
Though I hope you like it Wally (or at the very least don't mind it!) if you'd rather I removed the post I certainly will. The reason I chose this shot was because you WEREN'T smiling, unlike the other shot I got :) Dragan's shots tend to be more moody so I thought this expression suited it.

edit: and thanks r.e. the flower :) I liked the glow too.

I'd hoped that a three or four hour treasure hunt around the west end would yield a "treasure trove" of pictures... sadly it was very boring in the city and only the look on this kid's face caught my eye.

He really didn't look comfortable having his portrait drawn!

I wasn't planning on doing another flower shoot so soon after the last one but circumstances were such that at 11pm I still didn't have a photo. I decided to go for something minimalist with a strong focal point leaving me opportunity to focus on how I wanted to light the scene.

Strobist - YN460II right on half power through a softbox about 10cm from the subject. YN560II just out of frame right bounced off the ceiling (though I did try to angle it slightly so the centre of the flower might be hit by a direct reflection!)
