Your image reminded me of a set I saw a while ago of a photographer who took pictures of the contents of peoples bags.

Ive just found the set here on flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasontravis/sets/72157603258446753/

Maybe this is another idea to add to your list?

Good idea :)

Day 8 - http://500px.com/photo/22669567 ;)

Hadn't seen that guy's work in particular but I had seen the "what's in the bag" thing somewhere before and written it down in my little black book. Quite like the person + bag split shot.

#45 - A Billion Bubbles

Postby davidc » Sun 17 Feb 2013, 22:07

Four days of photos to share so here we go!

Wanted to try bubble photography and although it's a hit and miss process some of the shots are pretty cool.
Setup is really easy - prop up a shallow glass dish with about 2cm of water and drop oil into it. Swish it around to get some interesting patterns. Whatever you put underneath will form the diffuse background and then illuminate from the side using a flash. Simple!

After adding more and more oil I found that rather than getting loads of separate bubble clusters they started merging getting bubbles inside bubbles.

#46 - A Billion.... Berries?

Postby davidc » Sun 17 Feb 2013, 22:08

The closest I've come to not making it so far! Got home just after 11pm...

After a billion bubbles on day 45 we have this today... any idea what it is?
A quick shot setup tonight, didn't get hime from work til 11pm so had less than an hour to think of, light and take the shot.

Aimed for an interesting & unusual macro perspective on an everyday object!

Another busy day but spotted this solitary little crocus in the garden.

#48 - Robin

Postby davidc » Sun 17 Feb 2013, 22:14

I've been putting food in the garden for a week or two now trying to entice the birds in. They've been skittish but today were quite happy for me to stand there shooting them for 20 mins. The blue tits were less willing and didn't hang around!
This was at the edge of resolution for a decent shot with my lens but quite pleased I caught it with the nice backlighting as the sun was setting.

Turns out we have two of them making a nest in our ivy bush so hopefully there will be more shots to come.

Putting a drop of washing up liquid in the water, mixing it up and then waiting five minutes before adding the oil helps. I also found that leaving everything for a couple of hours to settle was a good idea as well. Great shot.

Cheers - I did seem to find it "easy" to get extremely complex shots like the one posted but unlessi croppedreallytight I couldn't get large single, simple bubble formations. Will try again sometime I think.

The thing about water is it's very willing to model for me :)

The 2nd thing is actually a coaster. Not exactly my best work but more popular than other shots this year so far!
