I'm not good at landscapes but there's something about this pic from our trip to Cornwall last week that I like. I'd welcome some C&C ?

Hiya

Right now it's a little washed out and flat. I think converting to B&W would add something to it. If you have SEP2 I'd try the high structure presets first, maybe even "Wet Rocks" before tweaking from there. Something to add drama to the sky would boost it.

Composition wise I can see why you took it, the river is nicely meandering into the scene.

Not sure about the seagull - it adds an interest point but also looks a tiny little bit like a "short & curly" on the sensor from this angle! Maybe try removing and see if it helps or hinders?

The light was really flat, there was some mist clearing over the hills but it's not that evident in the shot. I tried upping the contrast and thought it lost atmosphere. I alSo tried B&W but didn't really like that either. I have got another version with a bit more dodging & burning which I'll post later. I don't have access to that on my iPad.

I don't have SEP, I use Siver Shadows II Seim plugin for LR to do my B&W conversions. I was just looking atSEP and couldn't work out whether you could get it without buying the entire Nik Collection ? And is it a plug in for LR or PS ? Does it work in Elements ?

I too can see why you took it, especially now you have posted a larger version. It is a pleasing shot and I like the way that the eye meanders along the bends of the river into the distance and the eye is held in on the right by the shore and the buildings and the trees on the left. I think I would be tempted to boost the contrast a bit more in some parts of the image and maybe add some saturation or vibrance, but in moderation so not to lose the tranquillity of the image.

The B&W version improves the image to my eye. Ive also copied a favourite of the judges by masking part of the scene with my hand. Its seems you also have a portrait shot here as masking the left hand side gives a pleasing look of the right hand side.

I find that when I crop the left hand, the plain area of the water becomes more obvious and, for me at least, the image becomes less interesting.
