The Bamber Trophy for monochrome images will be held on 1 October, when the judge will be Helene Rogers FRPS FBIPP FMPA. The contest is for new work, so entries cannot have been used in previous contests, but images can be used subsequently in the monthly print competition and the exhibition.
Following last year's successful experiment and by consensus at this year's AGM, this competition will continue to be for prints only and no DPIs will be accepted. At the two most recent AGMs, members decided that monochrome images are best viewed as prints as they have a greater range of tonality than a projected image. This rule does not apply to the other one-off contests, David Eaves Trophy (nature) and Master Trophy (set theme), when entries will continue to be accepted as either prints or DPIs.
The competition is conducted as a single class and the trophy will be awarded to the entrant whose three prints receive the highest aggregate score. In the event of a tie, the judge will be asked to re-assess the tying entrants' photographs to select the overall winner.
Monochrome means traditional "Black and White", as well as meaning a single colour, such as Sepia. If there is even a slight hint of an additional colour, the image is not regarded as being monochrome. eg: a "Black and White" image with a single traffic light displaying green. This rule is strictly enforced.
