Photokina Suspended "Indefinitely"

Postby Mike Farley » Sun 29 Nov 2020, 08:40

Until a few years ago, Photokina was THE biennial show when the photographic industry came together in Cologne in an extravaganza that spanned several exhibition halls. It was so successful that the organisers decided to make it an annual event from 2019 onwards and moved the date from September to May. Having just a few months between two major shows proved too much for exhibitors and the 2019 event was cancelled. We all know why it did not go ahead in 2020 but now the next one has been postponed "indefinitely". As people will know from Adobe's use of the term when it stated that a perpetual licence version of its software would be available "indefinitely", that term does not mean "forever". Rather, there is no fixed period of time. Photokina might return in the future or this could be the end of a decades long institution. Times change but it is a remarkable turnaround of fortune since the last show in 2018.
