Snow in Croydon

Postby davidc » Fri 18 Jan 2013, 12:12

What's it like now in terms of getting about? Only southern trains suck at the best of times let alone during a blizzard so I don't want to be trapped at work if I can help it!

Hi David

It's still snowing at present, but only a thin layer so far, although it is falling more heavily now. A bit insufficient for photographic purposes, but more than enough to send the average Southern train scurrying to the sidings. Those things are so delicate that even one snowflake can cause problems.

Presumably you are aware that Southern has a website with live travel information?

Good luck with the journey home. I remember all too well what it can be like when the weather conditions are like this.
Regards

Yep I do check their site but I never trust it, went to the station too many times when "good service" was advertised only to be stuck there for hours :)

Very pleased to say that the snow is thickening up nicely here, so I am just off out to get some shots.

I would imagine that there are very few Southern trains which are not now cowering in the engine sheds .......

Seriously, I do hope that those up in London and elsewhere do not have too much difficulty in getting home tonight.

LOL... Discretion the better part of valour today - I decided to work at home. 8-)
As we live 6 miles from the station at Hayes I know only too well what a nightmare it can be getting home from there even if the trains are running that far...

Sadly I have to stay in til at least 4 but I'm bailing immediately after my last meeting. It's 2.5hrs to walk home and I'd rather avoid that....
