Re: Autumn Colour

Looking at the event details again, I see that there is a charge of £6 per head for the photography event, which I had not seen previously. There are still (just) sufficient places for all of us, but the National Trust is demanding payment in advance. The options are that we book individually or I c...

Re: Adding text to images

I can see that you want to push the boundaries of camera club photography. ;) Adding a caption would certainly be unusual, but if it added to the overall image just possibly it would be accepted. Trouble is, I cannot think of any of the few pictures where there has been a caption on the mount where ...

Re: Underwater photography, first steps

When I first joined the club, I ended up speaking to a visiting judge during the interval. He recounted to me how he had recently critiqued a picture of a lemur, only for the photographer to berate him afterwards for the low mark he had awarded. Apparently the image was a result of three days tracki...

Re: Heather Angel lecture at Dorking

I would certainly concur with David's assessment that anyone who knows the basics of macro photography would get less from the talk, assuming that it is identical to the one delivered in August. It is possible that there will be some extra material as Heather Angel spoke for about an hour at AP, whe...

Re: London Wetland Centre - 27th Oct

Thanks to Dave for organising this. He seems to have a knack of making trains and buses appear just as we needed them, so travelling there and back was very straightforward. :) Unfortunately, on this occasion there was not a lot to photograph at the centre. It receives its water supply from the Lee ...

Re: Heather Angel lecture at Dorking

This seems to be the same presenation that Heather Angel gace at Amateur Photographer's offices in August this year. It's a useful introduction for anyone who is interested in macro and the ticket price is a lot more reasonable than AP was asking!

Re: Mountboard

I would certainly be interested in the mountboard order especially if various colours are being ordered. The tutorials on making mounts would be useful as well. I believe it was mainly my black and white entries that had the colour problems, this I believe was due to using cheap catridges but I wou...

Re: Mountboard

I'm currently just using a metal ruler and sharp knife and though it's time consuming I've never had a problem until the judge called my work "shoddy"! Somewhat surprising as I thought the focus was on the image not the mount? Looking at the mount cutters on the longridge website I think ...

Re: Photo mounts

One other thing, how do people stick mounts together (e.g. front window to backing board) and the image to the backing board? I use pritt stick! Putting a backing onto a print has the bane of my life, recently. In theory, it is best to use another similar thickness of card which will ensure that th...

Re: Autumn Colour

It has been pointed out to me that a number of people who will be going to Winkworth Arboretum might not have the use of a car on the day. I will be bringing my own vehicle and it would be useful if anyone planning to use theirs could indicate in this thread so we will know whether we have sufficien...
