Re: International club weekend away?

That sounds an excellent idea. Northern Island appears to have plenty of great coastal opportunities and also means its not so reliant on the seasons. Steven Hanna is a NI tog and only posted a Giants Causway video a few days ago - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u49u0HFiWg (skip the first minute a...

Re: SmugMug Acquires Flickr

I joined Flickr 11 years ago and loved the groups discussion aspect of it when I first started out. The redesign a few years ago was so-so and didnt really inspire people. They are rightly criticised for not picking up on the mobile photography aspect which passed them by and the community hasnt rea...

Re: Coincidence

Wow, that is crazy. The chances of taking the (practically) same image at the exact same moment in time and then posting that online and then being aware of each others image gets beyond the odds of a lottery win.

Re: Portrait Workshop with model

Would definitely be interested in attending this event. Im sure collectively between all members we have enough light stands, umbrellas, softboxes and strobes to accommodate a few lighting setups for that evening. As for models Im sure we can persuade friends or family members to join us for that ev...

Re: Light painting

The Gold Loops shot is amazing! There's definitely scope for creating amazingly creative night portraits. I guess theres no reason you couldnt use a strobe to light a subject as well as light painting the background.

Re: Light painting

Thanks for the posting Rose. I remember looking at these wands a few years ago and thinking they were expensive at the time. I think for that reason I found online people cutting up Christmas lights and converting them to be portable by attaching 9V batteries. Sounds like the addition of a mobile ap...

Re: Snowdrops at Compton Valence

Thanks for sharing Mike, I like this shot and central composition works really well. You've reminded me to dust off my own Helios 44, I used it for bluebells a few years back and its been in hiding every since.

Re: Real or Fake?

Here's a photographer who captured the recent Blood Moon rising over the London skyline and detailed how he did it - https://petapixel.com/2018/02/06/shot-super-blue-blood-moon-rising-london-skyline/ Its clear from this post that getting the moon as large in the frame as Peter Lik did is not possibl...

Re: Real or Fake?

One of the comments nails my own thoughts exactly - "Anyone who has spent five minutes shooting the moon knows it is a composite." But not sure if he is marketing the image as 100% real. Either way he's a successful photographer who sells images so he's doing something right. Whether he's ...
