Re: Oaks Park

Viewed from a distance, this tree looked spectacular in the autumn sun but that that did not translate into a particularly pleasing image. I had more luck when I moved in close and rotated the camera to introduce a diagonal.

Re: Oaks Park

Cracking shot Mike and Im glad you persevered in looking for an image as you've certainly succeeded. Thanks, Paul. I got another shot that day at Oaks Park with which I am pleased and will be posting it here shortly. It is on my Flickr feed if anyone wants a preview. For those looking for woodland ...

Oaks Park

I have driven past this place on many occasions without knowing what was there - woods and formal gardens of a now demolished grand house. Oaks Park is right next to Mayfield Lavender and it is possible to visit both on the same trip. Trees, especially in woodland settings, are not the easiest subje...

Re: The Past Re-Lived, October 2021 - Iggy Tavares

For me, it would have been more interesting to see the finish times even though it was not a race, just to see how each make and model performed. The run is a celebration of the 1896 reform of motoring laws and the sole objective is to reach Brighton with the cars setting off from Hyde Park one by ...

Snowman

A while back, I shared an image of something which has become a contemporary meme, a knitted ornament placed on a pillar box. On that occasion, the camera I had with me was a monochrome only model that I was evaluating. That creation, a dog, has gone but has just been replaced with something more se...

Re: The Past Re-Lived, October 2021 - Iggy Tavares

Look out for the electric engined 066 1902 Columbia that is due to run tomorrow. The results have just been published and the Columbia electric car made it to Brighton. There are three cars that I especially look out for but two of them with which I have a loose association were not in this year's ...

Re: The Past Re-Lived, October 2021 - Iggy Tavares

Car runs on one charge. Could not find details of finish. The 2021 results have not yet been published. BBC London had a short piece about the electric car on Friday and said that it had been modified to use "LED" batteries. If LED batteries do exist, Google does not know about them. It s...

Re: The Past Re-Lived, October 2021 - Iggy Tavares

I am none the wiser whether the electric car, 1902 Columbia 066 went through Norbury or not! Somewhat frustratingly, none of the official websites have yet posted any reports of what happened during the event. However, while trying to find out which car was the first to get to Brighton, I came acro...

Re: The Past Re-Lived, October 2021 - Iggy Tavares

Checking my images, 90% of the first cars numbered 001 to 100 had already gone through by the time I came out just after 8 am. The cars set off in order of age, with the oldest departing first at sunrise from Hyde Park. Since they travel at different speeds, inevitably after a short while they will...

Re: The Past Re-Lived, October 2021 - Iggy Tavares

I started at 8 am in Norbury and either missed it because it had already gone through or it was on the alternate route. According to the LBVCR website, the alternate route is for support vehicles. As I recall, the participants have to follow the official route to qualify as finishers and there are ...
