Lithium-Ion Batteries - A Cautionary Tale

Postby Mike Farley » Thu 31 May 2018, 08:06

Lithium-Ion, as used in just about about every rechargeable battery which includes those for our cameras, is a volatile substance. The manufacturing process has to ensure that it is correctly encapsulated to ensure that it does not spontaneously combust or explode. Even then, problems can occur as Samsung discovered when it had to recall millions of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones a couple of years ago. This story from PetaPixel about a Hähnel battery highlights the danger of leaving them unattended, in particular during its initial charge.
