The change to a subscription model clearly has not hurt Adobe. Quite the reverse, despite a shaky start in the early days with a number of incidents arising from poor implementation. I am thinking in particular about the infamous hack when the details of tens of thousands of its customers were stolen. Of which I was one. Adobe has just announced a record quarterly revenue of $1.84 billion and year on year net income grow 55%.

Lightroom is, I believe, unique in that it is Adobe's only product which is available either with a perpetual licence or on subscription. Both receive updates for Raw processing as new cameras are released, but only Lightroom CC gets new functionality. In the past, Adobe has usually released new versions of Lightroom every couple of years, but we are well past the second anniversary of Lightroom 6 becoming available. Adobe's financial figures show why Adobe is in no hurry to update it. There is more money to be made from its subscription offerings.
