Day 20 and a walk in the falling snow to the newsagent's for the Sunday paper. My first image using the colour popping technique.

How did you go about te colour popping? I've seen a few different methods, wondering which you chose and why, and what you thought of it.

It was very straightforward. In Photoshop I duplicated the colour layer and converted it to mono. I then used a layer mask to erase the black and white section where the figure is to reveal the colour underneath. I used a large brush for most of the area, then reduced its size for the edges. Since the lower half of the figure is against the white snow, I found that I did not have to be that accurate and it only took a couple of minutes.

Thanks, Rose. I felt that the original shot was a bit lacking, but the colour popping treatment really lifted it.

Yes, it's a tehnique that doesn't always work - it can be overused in my opinion - but it definitely adds something here.

I do agree about overuse, Rose, which is why I have never done it before. I was fortunate that my wife was wearing such bright clothing with the colours of her socks and boots complementing the red jacket.
