You know I've often thought the same, and thought about taking a similar photo yet the very "insularism" you describe has always put me off taking the shot.

The judge last night talked about seeing 'connections' in street photography. This is the antithesis, and can result in a really powerful image as it provokes stronger emotions. I did a series of digital images for the Club exhibition a couple of years ago on this very subject.
