First shots with my new kit today. Just about managed to get the lens on the camera and then rested it on my plastercast ! LOL

1/500 - f/8.0 - 560mm - ISO 320
Handheld, taken through the kitchen window. Cropped and processed in LR

Good result, and with better bokeh than I'd have thought possible with the 1.4x converter on.

Thanks David, I was pleased with my first experiments. You get a maximum of f/8 at the long end with the extender on but the DOF in this shot isn't bad, and isolated the bird reasonably well.

+1

Impressive result from the new kit with the lens wide open.

You almost make a plastercast sound like a must have camera support accessory. Almost. ;)

You might have missed a trick when you broke your wrist. :o

Next time you could try taking along a tripod head and ask the hospital to bind it into the plastercast so that you can carry on shooting. I am sure that any associated inconvenience would be more than worth it. ;)

Another nice shot. Could the branch in the background be removed (not cropped)?

+1 for David's comments. Removing the out of focus stem in the background should be straightforward with the Clone Tool or Healing Brush, but would depend on whether this is intended to be a pictorial or nature shot. It's a shame that it is so close to the subject, as it makes cropping awkward. Time to do some pruning in the garden? ;)

Overall, another good result from the lens full stretch at its maximum aperture.
