SLF Finals Day

Postby Steve B » Sat 12 Jan 2019, 10:17

SLF Finals Day will be held on Saturday 27th April 2019 at 2pm at St. John's Church Hall, Eden Park Avenue, Beckenham, BR3 3JN. Doors will open at 1pm for the exhibition. Tickets cost £5.

For the benefit of new members, this is the day when the inter-club competitions which Croydon participates in, along with other clubs in south London, reach their conclusion. It is the chance to see the best amateur photography that our area has to offer.

Although we have not made it through to the finals day, there is still the opportunity to show your photographs in the exhibition that runs alongside the event at the same venue. This year, to encourage wide participation, there will be no fees to enter the Open Competitions. Up to two entries per author per competition - monochrome prints, colour prints and PDIs - will be allowed. The same formats that we use in our internal competitions are required, i.e. prints mounted on 500x400mm board (plus digital file) and PDIs saved at 1400x1050 pixel resolution.

More information about entry procedures will follow in due course, although we will need to have received entries roughly by the end of February, so please plan on this basis.

Hi Steve,
Are all the images entered by just a few from the CCC in the Open Competition going to be exhibited on SLF Finals day on Saturday 27th April 2019?
Kind regards,
Iggy

Hi Iggy,

As a rule submitted images fall into two categories. Those images that are either certificated or are to be commented on by the judge are not displayed. As many of the remaining images on a one per entrant basis are displayed in a separate hall.

Tom

hello all, Steve writes that the SLF Finals day will be held at Langley Park. Unfortunately the venue has changed, but fortunately it will be held at Trinity School just opposite the club, the same day, the same time. Perhaps it might allow some of you to come, it can be quite enjoyable, it also allows you to see what other clubs are doing, and what a winning picture is. I have been going for many years now and always took something from it.
Good luck to whoever has entered.

This year’s finals day event will now take place at a new venue – the Mitre Theatre at Trinity School in Croydon.

The likelihood of this (subject to further negotiation and confirmation) was indicated at the delegates meeting on 7 March, when we had just been informed that a booking mix-up at St John’s church in Beckenham meant we could not go there this year.

After detailed investigation of the theatre facilities, and subject to certain assurances regarding our specific needs, we are now able to provide that confirmation.

Furthermore, we believe the Mitre and its adjacent foyer space (where we shall be staging the print exhibition) is much more suitable for our purpose both this year and In future, if we can secure a regular booking.

Access to the school carpark is via the A232 dual carriageway at the Croydon end of Wickham Road or by way of an entrance off the A232 Addiscombe Road immediately after the entrance to Shirley Park Golf Club, depending on your direction of travel.

Finally, please note that there are no tickets on this occasion – entry costs £5 (cash only), payable at the door.

We look forward to seeing you on the 27th for what I have every confidence will be an enjoyable afternoon

While a few CCC members attended most of the SLF Finals afternoon, I was way laid by premiership football and F1 on the telly.
Fortunately, I did get to the Mitre Theater in time to view the Open Colour Prints and Open Monochrome Prints display in the Foyer that included some of the images that a few of us had entered.

The CCC did well in the Punch Bowl - Open Colour Prints competition where Mike Farley's Broken Tulip was one of 13 shortlisted that was commended and Paul Heester's Golden Brahma Hen received a certificate.

Wally Conquy won the Retina Cup - Open Monochrome Prints competition with his portrait of David from the 14 that had been shortlisted.

Congratulations Wally!
