The w/e of 22-25 Sep is fine for me, but the following w/e I am only available on Fri & Sat. That's not necessarily an issue as I'm sure I can leave you all to your devices !

Hi All,

I will create a different post for the 2018 tours to either Somerset or Dartmoor.

To finalise our arrangements for a trip to see Rose in Somerset this September the following has been agreed.

The fixed date will be Friday 29th September to Monday 2nd October (3 nights). Rose and members of her club will only be available on Friday and Saturday, so we can make our own arrangements for the Sunday which should not present any problems.

There are two cheap hotels to choose from.

1 - Good old Premier Inn. Based in the centre of Wells and a short walk to the Cathedral. Saver rooms are available (pay upfront) at £160 for the 3 nights.
2 - The hotels booking websites show the next cheapest as being the Wookey Hole Hotel with is 2 miles outside of town and they are £180 for the 3 nights.

All other hotels seem to range between £250 and £350 for the same period.

Personally I'm happy to pay now for the Premier Inn which is apparently a new hotel.

Those who have shown an interest are: -

Tom & Jan Sherrin
Mike Farley
Graham Cluer
Chris Davis

If anyone else would like to join us then please add this post.

Regards,

Tom

Adrienne and I will come. As before, Adrienne is likely to do her own thing during the day and just join us in the evening.

I will book Premier Inn later this week assuming that we don't suddenly get a host of people saying they are staying somewhere else.

+1

There is a £2-50 daily parking charge, but the hotel is still good value.

Thanks Mike,

As you say given the prices elsewhere and the proximity to the town centre it is still cheap.

I'm booking a room later this afternoon.

Have checked the Cathedral's website and there are no major events on for either the Friday or Saturday so access should be alright.

I have booked the Premier Inn Wells as well. Looking forward to this trip after the great success of the last one.

There used to be a £3 fee for a photography permit, but there is nothing about it on the cathedral's website. There was also a restriction to non commercial use, but there is nothing about that either. That made me smile, as Bruce Barnbaum sells prints of photos he made in the early 80s at prices starting from $1,250 of which I suspect the cathedral does not see anythng.

The last time I was there, entry was free but there now there is a suggested £5 entry donation. Perhaps that has replaced the photography permit?

Wells Cathedral entry fee (donation) is now £6, concessions £5. The below is on the bottom of their 'Plan your Visit' page.
