CCC Tours 2017/18

Postby toms » Fri 19 May 2017, 16:22

Having had some very successful tours of late it's time to think about where to go next.

Wally now has the trip to the Lake District sorted for October and I hope that goes well for everyone.

As a follow-on, Rose Atkinson has offered to guide us around the photographic sights of Somerset (e.g. Wells, Bath, Cheddar Gorge etc.). Also, there has been a request to arrange a tour around Dartmoor.

The most obvious times for these trips would be around Easter and the latter part of the summer 2018. So if members might be interested in coming on one or both of these trips please add your names to this post and I'll make the necessary arrangements.

In preparation for Somerset, I intend to go down and see Rose during September for a long weekend and should anyone else be interested in joining us then similarly please add to this post. There is plenty of accommodation in the area (including a new Premier Inns) with 3 nights coming to about £190.

Regards,

Tom Sherrin

I'm looking forward to welcoming CCC friends to Somerset !
Members of Mid Somerset Camera Club are interested in joining us too, so we'll have plenty of expertise and local knowledge :)

Thank you Rose and your club members for offering to be our guides etc.

Hopefully over the next couple of weeks well have an idea of numbers for the pre-outing visit plus for next year we will have the bonus of having already worked out and probably sampled an itinerary.

Kind regards,

Tom

For Somerset this year, there is no fixed date although the weekend of the 22nd September has been pencilled in.

I am aware that some may not be able to make that weekend so the weekends either side (e.g. 15th or 29th) should be possible subject to Rose being available. It would be good to go during September to make the best of the weather.

Tom

Hi Tom

I would be interested in the Somerset trip, but the proposed date is not good for me. The following weekend would be better.

Hi Tom

Devon is an area which has a lot of photographic potential. Having been to Dartmoor a year or so back, I would prefer to explore other locations in the county such as Hartland Quay and Combesgate Beach.

Going in the opposite direction, the Yorkshire Dales are scenic and I would not mind a return to the Peak District. For the latter, I would recommend appeasing the rain gods before setting out given the conditions we experienced last time. ;)

Hi Mike,

Apart from doing a reconnaissance to Somerset this year (the date you suggest is fine with me and hopefully Rose) we are at least thinking and planning for next year.

Going back to Somerset would be good as one of the trips for next year and Devon is a reasonable alternative option.

Having recently sold a property down there I've been to Dartmoor several times. The problem there is a mixture of light and foreground interest (for the moors). That said there are some good woodlands to the north of the moor. As a consideration, basing oneself towards the north of Dartmoor does open up the option of selecting the best of Dartmoor, Exmoor, Clifton and Bristol, not to mention a wealth of other places of interest.

Let's see what we as a group can suggest and try and work out some sort of itinerary and timetable from there.

Thanks to all who have expressed an interest.

Hi Tom,

I would be interested in this September trip. I would need to know a firm date before definitely committing.

Regards

Chris
