Worldwide Photo Walk - 1 October 2016

Postby Mike Farley » Wed 24 Aug 2016, 09:49

Yes, it's that time of year again, when Scott Kelby launches the annual Worldwide Photo Walk. This is a good opportunity for the club to arrange a walk in Croydon and possibly raise our profile locally. Is anyone up to organise it?

I've submitted a request to lead a walk in Croydon. I've got a few ideas for what I want to try to achieve which I outlined to on the application - if I get accepted, I'll go into more detail here. And probably ask for some volunteers to help :)

Hi David

Thanks for doing this. There is not much scheduled in the UK at moment and nothing in London outside of the centre. If you are accepted, it could prove popular. :D

I have the date blocked out in my calendar and am happy to lend a hand.

Given that there has been no update here and Croydon does not appear in the list of walks, I presume your application was unsuccessful?

I think some of the wheels might be coming off Scott Kelby. A while back he laid off some of the tutors who worked on his online video training website. It might also explain why there are seemingly so few walks available in the UK.

If you are still free, do you fancy a walk around Croydon on Saturday? We can invite other club members as well, of course.

David,
What was your planned route for your Croydon Walk?

I was planning on an approach similar to other photowalks I ran in Singapore - map out a route that I will be following, with a midpoint café for a coffee break, then an endpoint pub or restaurant to get together and review our work. Members can follow the route at their own pace, or go completely off piste and explore where they wish but everyone knows where I would roughly be. I would walk at the pace of the slowest and give tips & advice to those who wanted it. The more advanced tend to explore on their own.

If we had enough I was going to get a guided tour of Croydon from the National Trust people, they have a new tour of the town.

To add a little "direction" to the proceedings I'd arranged sponsorship for a couple of small prizes. The first "theme" was people, with the most compelling portraits of the diverse population of Croydon being rewarded and the second was the diverse nature of the town itself, with it's architecture/layout/shops all mishmashed together being the second theme. Without the photowalk sanction I doubt the sponsorshop will still happen.

How many people are interested in still going out for a walk?

Hi David,
Sounds very interesting. What is the time line.
Not many use the Forum. You might have to send out an email to all or mention it tomorrow at the club (which might be too late?).
I have to drop in to work at KCL London Bridge now, but perhaps Tom might help you out with the email through his weekly CCC circular that he usually sends out today.
