The current issue of Amateur Photographer features a location guide for Portland Bill witten by Jeremy Walker, if anyone wants to take a look. The good news for anyone who likes a lie in is that it works better as an evening venue. Quite a lot of the magazine's content ends up on its website, so the article should be available at this link by the time we go away.

I had previously ignored this completely when I was living abroad - now I'm back I'm interested.

Checking with the wife to see if we are free and if she would want to come (with baby & puppy) or I'd be going solo. Will find out ASAP.

Amateur Photographer's Portland Bill location guide is now online - http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/te ... bill-92241.

On a separate topic, has the hotel been booked yet and is a deposit required?

If my wife & I do come together, we'd need to bring the dog (and the baby). I'll have to check if this premier inn allows pets (most do). It may be that I end up having to book separately.

Dave

I am fairly certain that we are going to the other hotel, the Wessex Royale, which is better located in the centre of Dorchester. The Premier Inn is kind of in no man's land between Dorchester and Weymouth and there is less to do of an evening in the immediate vicinity.

This does illustrate why we need confirmation of the arrangements ASAP.

There is a letter in the next issue of Amateur Photographer (to be published on Tuesday) saying that erosion has changed the appearance of Portland Bill since some of these shots were taken. In particular, the last image in the article of Pulpit Rock is no longer possible as the "photographer's platform" from where the view could be seen has collapsed into the sea. It could still be a good location to visit, though, if conditions are right.

I've pinged the Wessex to see if they allow pets, can't see anything either way on their website.
