Was the wait worth it? What do people think about the new cameras? Amateur Photographers seems to be excited by the R6.

I didn't think the final production reflected the hype; however these cameras are just what's needed to stimulate the market - it will be interesting to see what Nikon & Sony come back with.

The on paper specs of the R6 looks great and would be where my interest lies, but it will be awhile before I can save up enough buttons to make the switch in the meantime waiting for the real world reviews!

Mike Johnston asked the same question of his readers at The Online Photographer blog. There are some interesting responses, especially one in the featured comments from Ned Bunnell (former President of Pentax USA) who had previously worked for Canon USA. He compared Canon's approach to DSLRs to mirrorless and suggested history might be repeating itself. In both instances, Canon was behind its competitors when introducing its cameras to the market.

There is one question I would ask. What exchange rate is Canon using? A body that is $2,499 in America costs £2,499 in the UK. A $3,899 body costs £4,200 here. Even taking into account that UK prices include 20% VAT while US prices are exclusive of sales tax, that is some mark-up for the R5. Canon obviously thinks they will be mainly selling it to people who will not want to take the risk of buying from grey importers and will pay the premium.
