There Is a Fly In My Lens!!!!

Postby Mike Farley » Fri 12 Apr 2019, 08:44

Well, not mine, thank goodness. But it does happen from time to time, apparently. Even if, as in this instance, the lens is weather sealed. And not just flies can accomplish this seemingly impossible feat but spiders as well. I suppose in an extreme case you could have both. At least the spider could sort out the fly but you would still need to deal with the spider. It reminds me of the song about the woman who swallowed a fly, followed by a number of increasingly large critters to eliminate the previous one.

Image Resource (as well as the other usual newsfeeds) has a summary of the story: https://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2 ... in-my-lens

The original article is from LensRentals, which goes into more detail including at the end how they think the fly managed to get in. They also tested the optical performance with the insect in situ and found it made very little difference. It does mean that no one need to be concerned about internal dust which is commonly found. eBay sellers do not dissemble about that particular issue.
