Gosh, Wim Wenders is a bundle of joy, isn’t he? In one brief clip, he has managed to demonstrate a profound ignorance of photography, its history and human nature. An impressive feat. The underlying technology may have changed but not, fundamentally, the way that people make use of photography. Among the great joys it brings are its diversity and popularity, something we should be celebrating rather than disavowing.

Michael Pritchard of the RPS (although writing in a personal capacity) has published a more substantive response to Wim Wenders' comments. His views are broadly in line with my own, although there are some aspects where we diverge.
