A Seriously Good Lens?

A few years ago, I picked up a new Voigtländer 90mm f/3.5 SL-II lens on closeout at a 50% discount. Cosina had discontinued production as it was switching its manufacturing capacity to the Zeiss range of lenses. (Cosina, despite being a Japanese company, holds the rights to the Zeiss and Voigtländer names.) My version came with a Canon EF mount and is manual focus, but it does have a chip for focus confirmation. The results are superb, far beyond what I would normally expect on the basis of what I paid.

The range also included a 125 f/2.5 macro lens which has an even better reputation. They are rare and command high prices when used examples occasionally come up for sale. Now Voigtländer has announced a successor which will be available next month, but that is not going to be cheap, either. It promises much, but is definitely one for well heeled aficionados. I will be interested to see the results, though.
