Do You Trust Adobe?

Postby Mike Farley » Sun 22 Oct 2017, 08:45

Adobe says that it is not going to kill off Lightroom Classic CC, the standalone version of its image management and processing software. PetaPixel has the story.

I believe Adobe when it says it has no definite plans to terminate what remains a profitable product, but its long term intentions are clear. It is pushing its customers towards an online service since that it where it sees the best opportunities to increase its revenues. It is easy to see the day when it will announce that there will be no more enhancements to Lightroom Classic CC and only the Cloud Computing version will get new features. It has already done that with Lightroom 6, so there is a precedent.

Besides, there are any number of instances where Adobe has made similar statements about its plans, only for things to turn out differently. As the linked story below from PetaPixel shows, it was only four years ago that the company was assuring customers that it would be offering perpetual licences for future versions of Lightroom "indefinitely".
