Amazon Marketplace Scam

Postby Mike Farley » Sat 12 Aug 2017, 08:53

This report is from PetaPixel and relates to an incident in the US, so I am not sure that it could happen in the same way in the UK. Essentially, someone bought a secondhand lens via Amazon's Marketplace. The seller sent a package, which did not contain the lens, to a differently named person at another address where it was signed for. Since there was a valid tracking number which showed that a package had been delivered, Amazon refused to honour their "A to Z" guarantee and refund the cost of the lens. Despite the parcel being sent to the wrong person at the wrong address. The buyer is currently disputing the charge with their credit card company.

The law in the UK protects credit card purchases over £100, so the situation should be different here. Amazon's stance seems incredible to me. The main reason for posting on the forum is to highlight some of the pitfalls which can occur when buying from abroad, especially where private sellers are involved.
