Just wondering if this is a themed competition with the usual 3 image entry?
Also how is this competition judged? Best single entry or combination of point on the 3 submissions?

No set subject. All work must be new and not used in any previous club competition or exhibition. Usual scoring out of 12. Highest aggregate score from the three images wins. In the event of a tie for first place, the judge will be requested to select the best panel overall to determine the winner.

One other thing to be aware of, the competition is for PRINTS only and there is no DPI category on this occasion.

I did notice that its a print only competition which is why I have been fretting about ordering mountboard and getting it cut.
I have not been able to find a Jakar set comprising a 100cm aluminium ruler that takes the Jakar mount cutter.
What do you use to cut the A0 to A1 given that A0 is 84.1cm wide?

I have a Longridge Duo Plus, which has been superseded by the Autograph model - http://www.longridge.co.uk/duo_autograph.aspx.

It can produce mounts up to A1 in size, which means that two A1 sheets can be obtained from an A0 board by cutting across its width.

Given that I always end up further trimming the edges to get the final size of 40 x 50 cm I just use a 60cm aluminium Jakar ruler. Simply pencil marking points along where I'm going to cut on the back side of the board. Then sliding the ruler along after the starting the cut.

Not as perfect a finish as using a really long ruler, but doesn't really need to be. Leaves the other edge on the board as straight as bought of course. You do need to be reasonably firm holding the knife and ruler down in doing the cutting, can easily shift... I use an A1 Unique Professional Cutting Sheet (double sided) to cut the board on, positioning the A0 board diagonally for the cut.

Everything is done with a A0 sized backing board as my working surface, protecting the polished lounge table I do my mounting on.

Hi Iggy,

Further to Graham's posting I only use a 600mm rule. It's the main one sold in the shops. The 600mm rule is all you need to cut out the internal section of the mounts. Regarding the large trimming down to 500 * 400mm anything will do. I use a straight 1000mm steel rule and a sharp Stanley knife. I wouldn't recommend using the mount cutter blades for the outsides as it will blunt them quite quickly which in turn could spoil the internal bevels.

Prompted me to consider getting a longer ruler for that type of job.

Had been discouraged by the price for this longer size in the shops I visited but visiting Amazon's site I notice there's a 1 metre aluminium rule with respectable reviews at a much lower price:

Not as well built as the Jakar and may well lose it's markings, but for this job that doesn't matter.

That is a great idea Graham. I will order one of the thicker Backing boards just for that purpose.

It is going to be rather busy at the club on the first night, with a few members cutting card.
In this first year for me, I will go with Mike's offer of cutting the board to A1 and making a donation to his charity.

I will buy some cutting equipment in the next week or two.

Going to get the image printing done with ProAm too. Have decided to try and upload the images to their site as it looks pretty straight forward. The image size they have requested for 12x8 and 12x9 inch prints is quite small, less than 2 MB each!

Still sorting out images for the competitions and for the CCC BOOK.
