Tripods Illegal on Hampstead Heath

There is a bye-law dating to 1932 which forbids the erection of various items on the heath, including photographic stand apparatus. However, it appears that the ban can be circumvented on payment of £60. :?

Do they have benches on HH?

When you say circumvented, do you mean bribing any police officer who quotes the bylaw? :)

Th byelaw is quoted in the linked article and makes provision for a permit to be granted for the erection of otherwise banned items. In this case the ohotographer got the worst of it as he received a written caution before paying an official £60 for the privilege of using his tripod. The other person involved who instigated the incident by objecting (incorrectly) to his picture being taken was in breach of another byelaw which prohibits the use of profanities. But that would have taken real work to arrest and charge him, and quite possibly not resulted in the raising any revenue, so he got off scot free.

And now amateur use of tripods is OK because the Hampstead Heath constabulary do not want to be inundated with requests.

This probably deserves its own thread, but I could not resist wondering how well this tripod would go down (or should that be up?) on Hampstead Heath. ;)
