DAVID'S PHOTOS OF THE MONTH

Postby davidb » Sat 09 Jan 2021, 00:10

I haven't done a lot of photography in the last year so I'm unable to show new stuff.

However, I do have an assortment of images going back to 2005 (although there is a gap of a couple of years due to a problem with my computer). What I'm proposing to do is look back over the years and find images which were taken in the month that we are in and upload an image a week (based on Friday). Most will not have been seen outside these four walls, others may be recognised as entries in competitions.

I hope you enjoy the photographs I post; your comments will be welcome - but please don't add your own images to this topic.

Sarah Shakespeare, Paul Heester and I let the train take the strain in January 2018 and visited Portsmouth.

This statue commemorates the men from Portsmouth Command who competed in the annual Field Gun Competition at the Royal Tournament between 1947 and 1999.

Still in Portsmouth this Police launch followed us (I was on a sight-seeing tour around the harbour) for a while then suddenly did a u-turn

A trip to London Zoo in January 2011 and a visit to Blackburn Pavilion where, once you're through two sets of doors, you're walking amongst the birds. The lighting can, at times, be a little problematic.

This is a Pekin Robin - a colourful bird. The focus is a little soft but it's an attractive bird and worth the look

In 2014/15 I was involved in the RPS 's "Bleeding London" project. While the project involved taking photographs of EVERY street, road, lane, etc in the London A to Z, I was not adverse to taking pictures for my own pleasure.

I came across this character in Streatham (not far from the station) in January 2015. You will have seen it in PDI competitions in 2017 as "Neighbourhood Watch" where it did good in the rounds although it flopped in PDI of the Year.

In January 2014 I travelled to Addington and walked Kent Gate Way/Addington Village Road towards Spring Park. Along the way I came across this; I don't know how it happened (and I didn't place the cutting there!) but I took advantage of natures placement. I was hoping to use it in competition but so far it's not seen the light of day due to not being able to get a more vibrante image; I think I may have found it.

Hi David,
Great set of images that I rather enjoyed viewing.
The cat definitely owns that street.
Just wondering what tree the flying seeds came from? Evergreen ash?
Next time I am at London Zoo, I definitely want to visit the Blackburn Pavilion.
Thanks for sharing,
Iggy

Iggy - I'm glad you enjoyed these images. I rather enjoyed looking for appropriate examples.

I've already started looking at February.

Thanks for posting those Portsmouth shots, that brought back memories of a good day! I must have missed that statue about the Royal Tournament. I have good memories of visiting that event at Earls Court, that gun race was taken VERY seriously. I remember those involved often lost fingers in the race due to the speed of moving all that heavy artillery :o
