So my default genres is travel photography. With a good mix of street photography, the odd seascape, and long exposure.

I'm planning on doing a bit of nature photographer to stretch me. You can do a lot with a standard zoom lens. But I'm going to use this as an excuse to try out a 100-400 Fuji lens. Wex rental https://rental.wexphotovideo.com/ has a really good deal for weekend rental, so likely to use them. My aim, to submit a nature shot to the nature competition in February!

What your plan?

Alright, street photography... A definite challenge for me. Might take a while to get the courage to post on here. Watch this space though... :lol:

Laura, happy to keep you company for street photography. Best tips I got are;
Go out with a plan eg; take a picture of someone looking at you; get someone to agree to have their picture taken. Something with yellow.
Allow a bit of space to allow the magic to happen. Eg someone to walk into the frame.
Take a step closer...

Hi Sarah
I was thinking of candid shots, not a pre arranged scene. I would probably try and wait for someone to walk in a scene I visualise, but who knows! I feel it might be a grab shot for me - if it happens.

Other area out of comfort for me will be the studio, e.g. the fashion photography on Wed evening, eeeeek
:shock:

All good fun!

I though that rather than people and animals, I would try photographing some waterfalls for a change.

So the second aspect of the challenge for me , was accessing and using a lens suitable for wildlife photography. So I rented the Fuji 100-400 lens. I was worried about whether I would like it. As I tried the f2 50-140 lens in the summer and hated it with a passion, big, bulky, heavy and not benefit for the weight. Seemed to ruin the whole point of a the Fuji CSC system. Yes, I know it a professional lens (but really, no!).

But I picked up the 100-400 lens and the weight and bulk had a purpose and it wasn't as ugly as the other lens. I learnt from Bett and got a proper shoulder strap to support the lens. Figured out the basics easy enough; but did make a few rookie errors, like putting on the 5m limiter. And not putting the Aperture high enough to ensure the pictures were sharp enough. Will definitely use the lens again, but not sure I would use it enough to purchase it. So I think renting is the future unless I see a bargain.
