Re: But It's £1,200!
The DPR review has a brief comparison against similar devices (half way down the page): https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-rx100-vii-review-in-progress/2 It includes the Panasonic ZS200 (TZ200 in UK) which is $400 cheaper than the Sony RX100 VII, but still a significant increase on...

Re: Replacement lens caps
My current best fit theory is that I was abducted by alien beings and it got left on their ship, but they realised too late to do anything about it.

Re: Replacement lens caps
Mine is a 95mm cap, so looks like £4 on ebay for a convenient to use one. There are cheaper ones, but they have small side-pinches which would likely be awkward with the lens hood, and that one still works out at half the total price of the Wex one.

Replacement lens caps
So apparently in between putting my camera in my bag and taking it out again 5 minutes later, my lens cap went AWOL. At the time I thought it'd just dropped off in the bag, but it appears to have done a houdini. Exact replacements are available via various sources for £15-20, but Wex/Calumet do thei...

Re: Historic motor racing photo
The race programme had most of the calculations already done, for the Handicap section - all I did was check the distance on a map and line up the numbers after subtracting 1.5 miles worth of time for each car. It does assume they'd be going flat out for that distance, but since it's the last bend o...

Re: Historic motor racing photo
Knowing that it was the 1932 race, we can narrow down the time the photo was taken even further... The corner looks to be ~1.5 miles before the end of the lap, so taking into account car speeds and handicaps from the programme, and knowing that #31 retired after 13 laps, the most likely encounter of...

Re: Master of Photography 2019
Sidar's second image confused me, until I realised it's probably a garden/allotment. I still don't think the image works, nor his first one - a busy shot that looks more like supervision than the demonstration it presumably is. Jan picked five images - I don't think the first or last ones add to the...

Re: CCC PHOTO 2019 in Croydon Advertiser
The URL needs to be the full thing: http://forums.croydoncameraclub.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3114 Frank's post only displays the last part because the forum's default behaviour is to convert URLs to links and hide the first part for local URLs - when that happens the full URL can be obtained b...

Re: Master of Photography 2019
Not sure if any of them particularly appeal to me, but I'd agree with that.
Perhaps a bit unfair in that a horse is a more difficult animal to photograph, whilst the donkeys seem far more docile and charismatic.
I don't get Maria's first two images with the hands though?

Re: Historic motor racing photo
Not as much work as you might think - the heritage section of Shell's website gave the release of AeroShell as 1928, and another website showed The Autocar was 4d until 1940. Looking at races between those dates, a description of the Ards circuit just happened to mention the "Central Bar" ...
