Re: Historic motor racing photo

It is/was the Ards TT circuit in County Down. The corner is in Dundonald, and looks very different today . Date-wise, the road-based track was in use between 1928 and 1936 for the RAC Tourist Trophy races (until two fatal accidents at the 1936 race). Assuming it was one of those events, since some o...

Re: Master of Photography 2019

I wouldn't be surprised if Richard was knocked out - he would have had a stronger set with just images 1/2/5, and even then those are a style of images that wouldn't necessarily score well with a camera club judge. I don't think Robin's middle three images are successful/cohesive enough. I'm undecid...

Re: Master of Photography 2019

4 hours to capture integration of various communities in 3 to 5 images. Interesting that they all opted for the upper limit - were they presented/judged as panels, or just a series of images? They are not displayed in a good way on the website, which is a shame. Who would you eliminate? It looks li...

Re: Mindfulness?

I read the quote as saying "pay attention to your environment", whereas mindfulness seems to be going a step further and having awareness of that attention? Either way, it's definitely easy to be over-focused, whether shooting landscape/nature/street/sports/whatever - they all benefit from...

Re: Victorian Gent

One of the changes I made was a small adjustment using Lightroom's Red Hue slider, nudging it across to the right. It has given the skin tones a more realistic tone, which is what I think you were after. I agree, that's probably what it was. PS - Interesting website, BTW. I like the way that you us...

Yep, that's a nice balance.

My thought yesterday was it might benefit from the slight desaturation, but today me disagrees with yesterday me.

Re: Victorian Gent

My preference would be about half way between the two versions, and perhaps with very slight Sepia applied.

Re: Master of Photography 2019

the brief from one judge was to capture the past and present in the boundaries of one frame... The other judge suggested that the site was just a location or studio to obtain an interesting image, but not a picture postcard. With those as context, the images make far more sense than when presented ...

Re: Alternatives to Lightroom

Concerns about noise are overrated ... It only really becomes an issue for severe crops which discard the majority of the image. This was the case for my Mandarin Feathers image in the last DPI round. The crop I wanted turned out to be 1382x807 so it didn't get downsampled, and I didn't want to pus...

Re: Fake Batteries Sold Through Official Channels

The EN-EL15b counterfeits are apparently identifiable by some subtle font differences - easiest to see is the E intersecting with the circle in the PSE mark: http://cdn-9.nikon-cdn.com/kdb/batteries/EN-EL15b-2.jpg It seems odd that someone would go to the effort of replicating the label on the back,...
