Re: Happy Anniversary, Croydon Camera Club

An excellent use for an image editing application. Which was not Photoshop, I presume. Certainly not - whilst Adobe has started shoehorning some 3D functionality into Photoshop, it would be far too much effort to achieve with that; I use a dedicated 3D graphics app called Cinema 4D , (though the sa...

Re: Lens decisions

If I could justify the expense, I'd happily get a close-up lens, a macro lens, a 500mm PF with 1.4x+2.0x TCs, and an ultra-wide zoom. (And a D850 too.) My "low budget" alternative is using the 300mm PF with a 1.7x TC to get a 510mm lens for birds that isn't heavy and can also work as a clo...

Re: Lens decisions

Thanks both for your comments. :) I've tried using stats from Lightroom, but it turns out to be not so straightforward. The Sigma 50-500 has 16 different focal lengths recorded, and depending on how you group the values can give different impressions. Also, whilst it tells me that a substantial amou...

Lens decisions

I currently have two lenses for my Nikon D750: the Nikkor 24-120 f/4, weighing 710g and 14..19cm long; and the Sigma 50-500 f/4.5-6.3, weighting 1970g and 29..38cm long. The Sigma 50-500 is a versatile lens, but it's large, heavy, and doesn't focus as fast as I'd like, so I've been trying to work ou...

Re: Do I need to format portable disc drive?

If your needs for the disk exceeds the FAT32 limits (which can vary; 2GB/4GB/256GB file size and 2TB/8TB/16TB partition size), you can use exFAT (the successor to FAT32), which has far higher limits, and works on all current Windows, Linux, MacOS since v10.6.5, iOS since v13. Another important thing...

Re: Southwark Bridge at Night

How safe is it to walk along there at night alone? The UK police website provides crime stats by type and area, and - although location is approximated to help victim anonymity - looking at robberies within 1 mile of South Bank does suggest they are more likely to occur away from the river. Two pho...

Re: Autumn Colours

I do wonder if it is a factor and similar scenes are being repeated elsewhere. I visited Addington Hills last week and there were some lovely autumn colours on display. It was around lunchtime and there were a few dog walkers, but mostly in the open areas rather than amongst the trees, so not much ...

Re: How to start a Landscape Photography Business

A lot of professional photographers say that around 90% of their time is taken up running their business, leaving just 10% for the actual photography itself. The other way of looking at this statistic is: with a five day working week, that's a full half day every week. How many amateurs get to spen...

You should start by doing that.

It's an educational video by Tom Scott about VPN commercials - perhaps useful for any club members who see misleading adverts on YouTube and falsely believe VPNs to be a necessary security precaution.
