Re: The Great British Landscape by Derek Forss

It seemed to me that many of the images he included were over saturated Indeed - I was wondering whilst watching how our previous judge would have reacted to the greens. ;) Whilst I'm not sure he outright said it, I did infer from various comments Derek made that he's aware he over-saturates and is...

Re: BLUEBELL RAILWAY 3 - Observing 'Camelot'

David mentioned this on page 2 ... This image was used in a recent competition (SLF Plate) and all the judge could see was the small slither of white disc (similar to that by the loco's number) behind the lads head! I've tried to heal it in Lightroom but it's such a small area it's difficult to hi-l...

Re: What I miss about this forum...

You're in The Lounge already - the description of General is "general discussion and anything that isn't covered by the other categories" - nothing in the rules prohibits non-photography subjects. So if anyone want to have conversations on whatever else interests them, start a topic and if...

Re: Pictures wanted for 14 November Informal Critique

I'm not asking for an explanation, I was simply pointing out that a C out of B,B,B is mathematically impossible using the three category system originally described, (which does not remove 10% of the score for "Judge's Discretion"). It is most likely that there was simply a typing error an...

Re: Pictures wanted for 14 November Informal Critique

Irrespective of what values are allocated to A/B/C or what weightings are given to the categories, you cannot mathematically combine three categories and get a total grading that is lower than the lowest category grading nor higher than the highest category grading - i.e. category grades of B,B,B ca...

Re: Changes to Flickr

I'm confused how you can be upset by the name SmugMug, but apparently be ok with "Oath", which is an even more ridiculous brand. 1TB is over 100,000 full size photos and costs ~£30 in physical form - I'm surprised Flickr was giving that much away in the first place (seems it happened at th...

Re: 3Bags

This is a severe crop of the original. I guess you did that to focus on the colours, but I think it's too severe. I find the partial hair detracts from the image, yet cropping it out (and the contrasting right-hand corners) ruins the effect, so I think it probably needs them to have their heads bac...

Re: OUTING TO DUNGENESS

I'll be coming along too, but will meet at the Dungeness end. Looking at the RSPB nature reserve website , it notes: Group visits are more than welcome as long as they let the reserve know in advance. Please let us know the date you wish to visit, the number of people you intend to bring, how you ar...
