I would have thought we were too far south for northern lights but you never know. They have been seen in London. If we get clear skies (this is Ireland you know) there will be lots of stars to see. You can get a photo of the Orion nebula with a DSLR and a good telephoto.

Take a line and divide it into two (unequal) parts. Chose your dividing point to make the ratio of the short part to the long part the same as the ratio of the long part to the whole line. You have now split the whole line in the Golden Ratio. The ratio is about 1:1.61803398875. That is close enough...

Poppies

There is a lovely field of poppies at TQ397582 (Hesiers Hill). But parking is difficult and you have to fight your way through 2m high thistles and lots of stinging nettles. Worth it though.

I belong to Croydon Astronomical Society and we have both a website and a Facebook page. We find more people find us through Facebook than from the web.
