Re: Bluebird K3 at Bewl Water - 21 September

I found an e-mail address for Bewl Water by using Google. So far as I can tell, it is not published on the website. I sent a message and it bounced. I tried phoning, but the only response is a recorded message. It does not appear to be possible to speak to anyone and the only advice for enquiries is...

Re: Bluebird K3 at Bewl Water - 21 September

When I first posted this, the website was saying that the event was scheduled for 21 September. It still does, in the text and on the Events page, but at the foot of the article the date "May 2023 TBC" appears in a large font. This date makes more sense as the event is supposed to mark the...

Chatham Dockyard Visit

David B and I will be making a visit in the next month or soto the Historic Dockyard at Chatham on a date yet to be confirmed. This is instead of the trip planned in July which was cancelled due to the heatwave. Is anyone interested in joining us?

Bluebird K3 at Bewl Water - 21 September

Sir Malcolm Campbell's famous boat, Bluebird K3, in which he set a world speed record on water of 130.91 mph, will be at Bewl Water on 21 September. Note that the event is dependent on both weather and water conditions. https://www.bewlwater.co.uk/blog/2022/08/back-with-a-blast-bluebird-k3-returns-t...

Re: For Fuji fans

Hi Andy The secret is out - Fujifilm has long been making some very fine lenses! Last month, I had the opportunity to use the 150-600 on the new X-H2S when I went on a photowalk with Fujifilm at Cameraworld Live which was held at Brands Hatch. As you say, it was a remarkably light combination given ...

DSLR vs Mirrorless

An observation by Kirk Tuck about the used section of the local camera store in Austin, Texas. Most of the stock comprises DSLRs with few mirrorless models available. The shop has so many unsold secondhand DSLRs, it is no longer accepting them in part exchange for new gear. https://visualsciencelab....

Heatwave

For anyone still reeling after two days of high temperatures consider this from Kirk Tuck, a photographer who lives in Austin, Texas: "As of July 19th Summer we have had 78 days over 90° (actual temps) and now 41 days in a row over 100°*. We're all getting just a little tired of the relentlessn...

Re: Club Outing: Historic Dockyard Chatham - 18 July 2022 (POSTPONED)

I saw an article on the Macfilos blog (run by Mike Evans) that Brooklands Museum* is closed both yesterday and today due to the high temperatures. I thought I would check the position at the Chatham Dockyard. It is open, although this notice appears on the home page: "We are open as normal but ...

Re: Club Outing: Historic Dockyard Chatham - 18 July 2022 (POSTPONED)

In the event, not quite the record breaking temperatures predicted by the weather people but still far too hot to be out and about for the day. Photography During Hot Weather

Useful advice from someone who lives in Austin, Texas where summertime temperatures are habitually higher than the exceptional* heat we experienced yesterday. https://visualsciencelab.blogspot.com/2022/07/photographing-in-very-hot-weather.html The article mentions particular problems with the Leica ...
